Almost two years in an ABC interview, Demi Lovato shared with the world her struggle with an eating disorder and bipolar disorder, leading her to self-harm. She expressed to ABC 20/20 reporter , “I thought, this is the way to deal with what you are feeling,” […] “it was a way of expressing my own shame of myself on my own body, I was matching the inside to the outside and there were some times where my emotions were so built up I didn’t know what to do.”
Through her struggle, Demi Lovato has overcome the worst feelings of despair, all while in the limelight. She has been an inspiration to many. In later interviews, Lovato would share her triumph: “I can’t do this to my body any more.. I am going to let my body be what it naturally is supposed to be” -Demi Lovato
Her advice includes mandotory therapy, support system, and belief in one’s self. She stated, “Treatment was so difficult at first but they needed to have those strict rules in order for me to understand how sick I was.” These are difficult times- if you are struggling, talk to your parents or trusted adult, even if it seems like it may not help.
