Movies and TV often make it seem as if being popular should be a top priority for teenagers. They give the impression that popularity is the answer to everyone’s problems when that’s not the case at all.
Here are just a few reasons why aiming to be popular isn’t a good use of your time and energy:
- Middle school and high school don’t last forever. Don’t spend time worrying about it. Your energy can be better put to use toward something else.
- Instead of trying to make a lot of friends, focus on having a few strong friendships. Quality is better than quantity.
- You shouldn’t change yourself to be popular. Pretending to be someone you aren’t becomes a hassle. Don’t makes things harder on yourself. Just be yourself!
- Many people believe that being popular will get rid of their insecurities. Becoming popular can actually increase them. The key is self-acceptance.
Remember, life is too short to pretend to be someone you aren’t just to be popular. Being yourself can take a lot of courage, but it is ultimately the best thing you can do to live a fulfilling and happy life.
